Local citations, by country
A local citation is any mention of your business name, address and phone number on another website. A business directory listing counts, and so does a mention in a local news story. It counts even when there is no link to your site, which sets this category apart from everything else here.
Start with the global platforms. Other services read your details from those records, so getting them identical to each other is worth more than the next thirty listings combined.
Then move on to your country. This is where geography really changes the answer: the directories a customer in Leeds uses are not the ones a customer in Toronto uses, so each country has its own list.
Global first, then your country
Global platforms
The profiles every business should claim wherever it trades. Other services read your details from these records, so do these before anything below them.

Australia
Directories here often check your ABN before listing you, which keeps most of the spam out and leaves a smaller, better set.

Ireland
Its own national directories, several of which check your details against the company register.
New Zealand
Its own established directories, separate from the Australian ones, which is why it would get a page of its own.
South Africa
English language, with an active local directory scene and very few published lists that cover it.
India
The largest English language market here, with the widest range in quality, from genuine national directories to listings that exist only to sell submissions.
Singapore
A small, business dense market with a small set of directories to match, so you can finish it quickly.
United Arab Emirates
Free zone registers alongside the commercial directories, with residency and licence requirements attached.
Germany
A deep directory layer, and submission forms that expect you to read German, including the terms you are agreeing to.
France
National business registers plus regional directories, most of which ask for a SIRET number.
Netherlands
A small, well maintained set, with the chamber of commerce register behind much of it.
A country gets its own page once it has 15 entries of its own, counting only the ones that would not already appear on the global platforms page.
If a country's local scene amounts to the global platforms plus a handful of local sites, we add it as a filter rather than a page. Near identical country pages would show you the same list several times over, which is also why the other categories on this site are not split by country.
